The piece was created with oil paint on a hand stretched canvas. Inspired by fire that nearly destroyed the church from 2019, the painting depicts the visually arresting destruction of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Images of the church being consumed by flames seem to enhance the iconic 850-year-old gothic structure.
The painting was completed during the volatile year of 2020. I found this to be an especially emotional piece that ultimately helped me focus on finding the beauty in purpose behind moments of challenge and turbulence.
